Dr. Xaver Meyer erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung an der Universität Wien (Grossmann, Gillesberger, Lechthaler, Uhl, Berger-Schmölz) und promovierte zum Doktor der Germanistik. Seit seinem zehnten Lebensjahr - damals als Wiener Sängerknabe - steht er auf dem Konzertpodium und hat als Dirigent und Pianist der Wiener Sängerknaben, des Wiener Akademie-Kammerchores und des Wiener Männergesang-Vereines alle Kontinente der Erde bereist. Mit seinen Chören und verschiedenen Orchestern trat er im In- und Ausland auch in Hörfunk und Fernsehen auf und dirigierte eine ansehnliche Zahl von Tonträgereinspielungen. Am Franz Schubert-Konservatorium leitete er die Abteilung für Elementarmusikerziehung und unterrichtete Ensembleleitung, Sologesang und Kulturkunde. Von 1964 bis 1984 war er Chordirektor am Theater an der Wien. Sein Buch "Chorleitung" wurde bei UE wiederholt neu aufgelegt. Als Gastdirigent in- und ausländischer Ensembles (zuletzt an der Musikakademie von Jerusalem), Juror bei Chorwettbewerben, Mitarbeiter in Musikfachzeitschriften, Referent von Chorleiter- und Stimmbildungs-Seminaren und als Fachberater des Unterrichtsministeriums in pädagogischen Kommissionen hat er sich hohes Ansehen erworben. Seit 1991 leitet er das von ihm gegründete Vokalstudio. 1995 wurde ihm vom Herrn Bundespräsidenten
das Goldene Ehrenzeichen
für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich
verliehen. Xaver Meyer completed his studies in music (Grossmann, Gillesberger, Lechthaler, Uhl, Berger-Schmölz) and music pedagogy at the University of Vienna, where he earned his PhD in German as well. At home on the concert stage since the age of ten (as a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir), he has appeared on every continent as a conductor and piano accompanist of the Vienna Boys' Choir, the Vienna Academy Chamber Choir, and the Vienna Men's Choral Society. With his choirs and with various orchestras he has performed at home and abroad on radio and television and has conducted numerous recordings. On the Franz Schubert Conservatory, he headed the department of elementary music education and taught ensemble conducting, solo singing and cultural history. In 1964 he was appointed choral director at the "Theater an der Wien" and remained there until 1984. His book "Chorleitung" ("Choral Conducting") has been brought out in several editions by UE Publishers. As a guest conductor of local and foreign choirs, a juror at choral competitions, contributor to musical journals, instructor at conducting and voice training seminars and advisor to the Austrian Ministry of Education through educational commissions, he has won a notable reputation. Since 1991 he has also directed his own vocal studio. In 1995, he was awarded the Order of Merit in gold by the president of
the Repubic of Austria. |
